There have been a lot of astronauts that were American heroes, but the first African American female astronaut was Mae Jemison. Mae Jemison was the first African American female to be admitted into the N.A.S.A. administration company as an astronaut. Surprisingly enough, Mae Jemison didn’t always want to be an astronaut when she was younger; she wanted to be a scientist. Also, she went though a lot of complex training to get where she is today.
