Malcolm X - Undergraduate Applications
The person I would want to sit down and talk to the most is Malcolm X. I find Malcolm X very interesting in many ways. I think that he was one of the most influence people in the Black movement of the 1960’s. He used intimidation and violence to get his point across. His plan did work. Malcolm X was born May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His real name is Malcolm Little. His mother was a home maker and his father was an outspoken Baptist minister. During the 1960’s he was a leader of the black movement. He would hold rally’s and was a Muslim leader. He converted to Islam and then changed his name to Malcolm X. He considered “Little” to be a slave name. So he changed his name to X. Malcolm was appointed as a minister and national spokesman for the Nation of Islam. Elijah
Muhammad also charged him with establishing new mosques in cities such as Detroit, Michigan and Harlem, New York. He lead most of the demonstration against the government and such with the movement. Malcolm was gun downed during a speaking engagement in the Manhattan's Audubon Ballroom on February 21, 1965 three gunmen rushed Malcolm onstage. They shot him 15 times at close range. The 39-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival at New York's Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. I would want to talk to Malcolm about how he had the courage to do so many things for himself and his peers. He went against many giants but defeated them all.
